The launch failed very shortly after lift off. There is no indication of anyone being hurt.

You hear that sound....That's the sound of monies. Lots of monies that just exploded...

But the private sector's always the answer, right? LOL.

All the monies exploded. That's really too bad for Orbital.

It's still in its infancy. Uncle Sam and the Ruskies had plenty of failures on their ways to space. Just another step in the process. Albeit a really expensive one.

There have been exactly zero failures of government sponsored space launches in human history, right?
Rockets are hard, you're attempting to point a giant explosion in a certain direction. Sometimes it goes in other directions too. You learn and move on.

They just announced confirmation that there was no personnel injured, so one good thing at least.

Considering the Soviet's record of rocket launches, yes, the private sector is better. The U.S. government has always bought rockets from private contractors.

Sorry to respond to my own post, but is anyone else surprised by how little damage the launch facility appears to have sustained? Obviously hard to see much from these cameras, but I expected it to be a smoking crater filled with twisted metal from the launch structure. That was one hell of an explosion when it hit ground.

Ha I don't twit either. Looked around though, the ISS twitter is all business mode right now and Chris Hadfield (not current crew) just said that's too bad it happened.
